Algebra Puzzle

Solution:

Let 1 apple=a

Let 1 clock=b

Let 1 banjo=c

3a+c=98

3c+a=64

a+b+c=61

2a+b+c=86

86-61= 25

a=25

2a+b=73

73-50=b

23=b

a+3c= 64

64-25=3c

3c=39

c=13

Maths Performance Task-Personal Reflection

(i) Role of statistics in real life.
On what i know about statistics, it is about data collection o
f any kind and analysis of the collected data in large quantities. It is often represented in a graph with one line being the change in the amount variable and the other is change in time or group. Different graphs have different change in time or group such as a line graph is only used in the change in time while a bar graph can be both the change in group and time.
Statistics can be used to measure the quantity of almost any variable, ranging from the amount of water used, to the population of a city and to the change in the economy. One of my encounter with statistics is when i used to take the height of a growing plant during a science project. During then, i used the line graph as it can easily show the viewers the change in the height of the plant over the next few days.
In newspaper articles, statistics are usually used to show the economic movement, casualties from a natural disaster etc. such as the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami.

Source: Wikipedia.org

This image shows the intensity of the quake in different parts of Japan. It contains a legend which shows us the intensity of the certain place marked by different colors. In my opinion, it is a good way to easily show a person immediately which part of Japan has the worst of the quake compared to bar graphs, although it shows which place has the highest intensity easily with the bar of highest intensity being the tallest and the name of the place. Not all statistics result may be correct or real, as it depends on the person making the graph, on wether he or she is biased or has wrong information about the statistic graph variable, such as the person may lie about his or her country's economic report, in order to show that his or her country's economic is better than what it should be. In my point of view, a statistic table should be taken by different reporters and then decide upon the most accurate and fair result.

ii) Learning experience.
I believe that my team has so far done a great job on the performance task, as we are able to come out with conclusions and graphs to represent our findings. My role in the project was to gather individual charts of different areas and compile them in the findings of the percentage of buses that came on time against the percentage of buses that did not come on time. After that, me and my group members discussed about the conclusion and how to present our data in the poster. I believe that my group members' strength lies in the ability to create a decorative poster and graphs as two of them are from media club. The main challenge was deciding on what hypothesis and conclusion we should have as our group takings were based on bus stops inside GRCs and a SMC. Also, we have to void some takings which were incomprehensible due to the fact that the reading could not be true, for example, if the person stayed only at the bus stop for one hour and thirty minutes, there could not be an occurrence of 12 buses that have an expected arrival time of 12 minutes. If i were to do a similar project such that some statistics have to be taken, i would prefer to take them on my own than to rely on other's taking, such that i know my own readings are reliable and consistent according to myself.

Reflection of CNY hamper

1)What are we doing? What have we done?

We have done a hamper for Chinese new year to give to the elderly. We first planned on what items should be in the hamper and how to wrap the hamper.

2)How do we think that we are affecting the recipients of the hamper? What will be different for them?

I think that we had let the elderly know that there is someone out there who cares for them. They may feel happier just with that thought.

3)What could be our next step to care for this group of recipients?

We could visit them to help clean or decorate their home, play games with them or just talk to them, letting them have some company for once.

"maths and numbers"

I agree with the statement as no prime numbers can be an even number, prime numbers are the building blocks of every even numbers. For example, 3+3=6/ 5+5=10/ 13+13=26.

Post Orientation Reflection

The three highlights for me during the past two weeks were the camp, the tower building challenge and meeting our new teachers. My lowest moments were when i first discovered that me and my friends from primary school were going to different classes, going into the class without knowing anyone at first and not doing the rock climbing obstacle during the camp. The greatest lessons during the past two weeks were learning about how to work as a team during the camp, tower building challenge and learning about SA, Situational Awareness. I learnt about myself that I am daring during the high elements and can make friends easily during the past two weeks. I am looking towards more group activities and more stuff to learn for 2011.

SST homework (English)- Communications

Communication is important as it is used for people to understand what you are trying to tell them example instructions, orders, requests or what you are feeling. My favourite form of conversation is verbal conversation as it is the easiest to express and the easiest for other people to understand. I would choose the form of communication by what form of conversation the other party is using. Difficulties that i mostly face in conversations is that when using verbal conversations, some people speak too fast or too soft, so i am not always able to understand them.

Day 1 Mac Attack 1 - Activity 4: End-of-Day Reflection

I was very much looking forward to experience SST, but today what I experienced exceeded my expectations. Today, the many activities with my new peers and the PSLs helped break the ice between us. In addition to the games, i experienced a new and exciting way of learning. Today we were thought about the three Rs: Roles,Rights and Responsibilities. Although they are but three simple words, each of them carries a deep meaning. I chose SST for its interesting curriculum and its different learning approach. I aspire to excel in my studies in SST and build good long term relationships with friends and teachers. Today's activities allowed me to interact with my peers and participate actively in my role as a team player.

What i am grateful for...

I am grateful for almost everything in my life,I am grateful that I have parents who care for me and help me in my time of need.I am grateful that I have a brother who have the same love for things as I.I am grateful that I have grandparents who are great cooks and also look over me.I am grateful that I have maids who help me wash my clothes and cook my meal.I am grateful that i have aunts and uncles who i interact with.I am grateful that i have friends who play and laugh with me.All i can say is,i am grateful that i have a wonderful life with wonderful people around me.

My love for books

Many people call me a bookworm,but i do not care.Books are my source of entertainment and it helps to open my mind.I have tons of books,i like adventure books and books about mediaval times.I prefer books that have many pages,for if there is only about a hunderd pages,you might as well not read it as they cut the story short.these are a few books i would like to recomend:

1.The Pendragon series
2.Eragon
3.Chronicles Ancient of Darkness

Me and my friend have an affection for these books,after one of us had read it,we would lend each other the books that either of us do no have.For if after you read a book over and over until your bored of it,you would leave it on a shelf,forgotten.So it is best to share your books with your friends and spread the love of books!

Holiday's here!

Finally!After weeks of misery,after work and work all day,the holidays have arrived!All i had planed for the holidays is to have fun,fun and more fun!And my mother is going overseas for the whole holiday,how much better can that get?While my mother is away,my father had planned to go to malacca for a night.Unforstunately,we did not go as our aunt fell sick and did not recover in time.Maybe it was a good thing as i had more time to play computer.I want to spent every second of the holiday doing things to relax,although i somehow miss school and i am eager to get back my test papers for further rewards if it is good!

Racial Harmony

Though different tongues and different culture,we do not classify ourselves higher or lower than each other.We help each other and are polite and greet each other everytime we see each other.We also play with each other and invite one another to our houses.I hope peace can last like this in Singapore for this is racial harmony.

The last day

The last day of holiday is always a horror for those who experience holiday. I wanted to bring down or burn something but i ended up going to chinese swimming club with my cousin. While the adults were in the karaoke room,we played arcade,psp and swimming. We spent about more than two hours in the pool. Ah well, I guess good things come and go. I cannot wait to go back to school.

Trip to Arvin's house

Me and Joshua went to arvin house to do some last minute work. I went to the school where we were suppose to meet in a taxi. Poor Joshua had to run all the way there. At his house, we were constantly licked by his two adorable dogs, too bad i could not have a dog for two reasons.

1:I cannot take care of pets.
2:My mother is afraid of dogs

Other than that we ahd a good day!

Transformer revenge of the fallen

On the day it was released, we immediately went to watch it in the morning. After a MCDonald breakfast, we mad our way to watch it. It was the best show i have watched in a long time! Regardless of H1N1 nothing will stop me and my brother from watching it!

Gathering party

My mother's friend organised a gathering party at her condominium and some my mother had not met for twenty two years! There were alot of children too, including my best friend.While our parents were busy chatting, we were playing among ourselves.

Later, while we were playing water gun,my friend shot water at another friend who was cycling nearby. We like to agitate him as we always fight hand-to-hand against him. And the outcome was disaterous,he got off the bike in rage and went to push my brother into the pool which had a seat at the side, luckily my brother was unhurt. everyone angry now, we fought among each and by means using the water gun and we all ended getting hurt. But even with the adult's arguments i will still fight with him.

Later while swimming, my friend who always acted like a hero became a zero.he jumped off a ledge and landed in the wrong position and broke his right leg which i heard a few days later.This tells us to not take unneccesary risk.

Trip to Macau

I do not expect this overseas trip to be a big hullah as my we are going there and just staying in the Venetian altough it is a very big hotel as well as a shopping mall.

On the second day, we went around the hotel looking for the play room call "The Qube" and it have alot of games including Xbox, Wii and a giant playground. After we were settled, my mother left us with our maid and went to do the sole reason she comes here a few times a year: To play jackpot.

Our breakfasts were delicious as we ordered room service but lunch was adequete as we ate at the food court. For dinner we ate at a chinese and japanese restraunt.

The last night,me and my brother watched a plane crash show and we were actually afraid of the return trip tommorrow. But luckily, we arrived home safely.

Starting of holidays

Holidays again. And for the last five years i have been doing the same thing every holiday: eat, sleep, play and otherwise go overseas. Completely NO work except for school holiday homework.

This holiday I expect to be very much the same and we are also going to Macau but me and my brother are very excited because Transformer:revenge of the fallen is going to be released soon and we are going to watch it regardless of H1N1 virus.
